Do you have orange and condensed milk leftover in the pantry? How about preparing an irresistible recipe for soft donuts that melt in your mouth? With a perfect combination of citrus and sweet flavors, these donuts are truly delightful! Follow the step-by-step instructions and be amazed by the result.

Ingredients:

  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (4.2 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast (0.35 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (1 oz)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (0.2 oz)
  • 1 cup warm water (8.1 fl oz)
  • 1 egg
  • 5 tablespoons condensed milk (3.5 oz)
  • 3.4 fl oz orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons powdered milk
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour (19.1 to 21.2 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine (1 oz)

For the syrup:

  • Juice of 2 oranges (6.4 fl oz)
  • 7 oz condensed milk
  • Confectioners’ sugar (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Grate the zest of 1 orange and set aside. Then, squeeze the juice from the same orange and set aside.
  2. Prepare the sponge: In a bowl, mix 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of dry yeast, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Add 1 cup of warm water and mix well. Cover and let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. After resting, add 1 whole egg, 5 tablespoons of condensed milk, and 3.4 fl oz of orange juice to the sponge. Also, add 2 tablespoons of powdered milk and gradually add 4 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, until you get a soft dough that doesn’t stick to your hands.
  4. Incorporate the orange zest and 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine into the dough. Knead for about 10 minutes.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rest until it doubles in size, approximately 30 minutes.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 portions and shape them into donuts. Let them rise again until doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Brush the donuts with a mixture of 1 beaten egg and 1 tablespoon of milk.
  8. Bake the donuts for approximately 40 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While the donuts are baking, prepare the syrup: In a saucepan, heat the juice of 2 oranges with 7 oz of condensed milk until it thickens into a syrup.
  10. Once baked, remove the donuts from the oven and drizzle them with the orange syrup. Dust with confectioners’ sugar, if desired.
  11. Allow to cool and serve.
