  • 10.5 oz (300 ml) warm milk
  • 4 tablespoons (about 1.4 oz or 40g) sugar
  • 0.35 oz (10g) instant dry yeast for bread
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1 level tablespoon salt
  • Good quality all-purpose flour (approximately 28 oz or 800g)


  1. In a large bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir well to dissolve the yeast.
  2. Add the oil, butter (or margarine), and salt to the mixture. Stir again to incorporate all ingredients.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture, a little at a time, until the dough no longer sticks to your hands. Be careful not to make the dough too stiff, as this may result in a heavy bread.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes soft and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
  6. After resting, punch down the dough and divide it into desired portions for the loaves.
  7. Shape the dough into balls or larger loaves as preferred and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Let the loaves rest again until they double in size.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350-390°F (180-200°C).
  10. Optional: If desired, brush the loaves with a mixture of egg yolk and a little milk for a golden color after baking.
  11. Bake the loaves in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and baked inside.
  12. Remove the loaves from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
