  • 4 eggs
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup (250 grams / 8.8 oz) sugar
  • 2⅔ cups (350 grams / 12.3 oz) all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml / 8.5 fl oz) milk
  • 5 tablespoons (70 grams / 2.5 oz) butter
  • Vanilla essence, to taste


  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the eggs with a pinch of salt and the sugar until fluffy and pale.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the milk and vanilla essence over low heat until the butter is completely melted.
  4. Gradually add the flour and baking powder in two batches, alternating with the butter and vanilla mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven.
  6. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
