  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (0.11 oz / 3 g)
  • 1.5 cups warm water (10.14 fl oz / 300 ml)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (15.87 oz / 450 g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (0.21 oz / 6 g)


  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the baking powder in warm water.
  2. Add the flour and salt. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, adding flour as needed, until you have a soft dough that doesn’t stick to your hands.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  5. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts and let them rest for another 15 minutes.
  6. On a floured surface, roll out each portion of dough very thinly using a rolling pin.
  7. Spread softened butter over the rolled-out dough.
  8. Fold and coat the entire dough with butter.
  9. Repeat the process of buttering and folding with the remaining portions of dough to form a layered envelope.
  10. Place the first folded dough onto the second rolled-out dough and fold as in step 7.
  11. Repeat the entire process with the other two portions of dough.
  12. Cover the dough and place in the freezer for 25 minutes.
  13. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
  14. Flour the dough again and roll it out to approximately 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) thick.
  15. Cut the dough into strips about 3 fingers wide.
  16. Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese and chopped sausage over the strips.
  17. Seal the strips tightly.
  18. Brush with egg yolk.
  19. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
